PokéFiends

Welcome

PokéFiends is an open and expansive multi-region Pokémon roleplay that welcomes both canon and original characters. From the regions in the main games, the anime and side games, and even a bit more, you can travel anywhere.

Be wary, a darkness lurks in the night, a sinister creature haunts the edges of the moonlight. Turmoil brews, traveler, so take your first step with caution.

News

Four months ago, terror held the world in stand still. The attacks on both Saffron and Castelia have concluded... and despite the growing darkness, the people of the world band together to throw an event in the spirit of world unity and the courage to stand against this new foe.

SO! The second contest is away and off! Here we go! If there are ANY questions, ask them here. If there's any confusing about rules or what you're supposed to do, ask them here. Please, I've tried to be as clear as I can be. Though... I'm sure Cranlon will find something! Now then, I understand they're all pretty much literary contests... but I felt that would, at least, make sense. Next time I will try to mix more "gamey" ones in there, unless of course, people enjoy these.

Basic Rules:
1. Take these things seriously. If I find you're just fucking with them to screw up other people's fun, you'll be disqualified from every contest for the next three months.
2. You are allowed to enter all three contests.
3. Be polite and ask all questions here. Do not PM me with questions, because they may solve stuff for other members in this case. (I know I say to PM me in my signature, ignore it for this contest.)
4. All entries are due by next Friday, all Adventures should be finished before then.
5. Edited posts must have time stamps.

HAIKU CONTEST
The object of this contest is to write a haiku. Haiku are a type of poem, you may be familiar with them, which is simple and short. They're composed of, traditionally, three lines with alternating amounts of syllables. The first line is five syllables, the second line is seven, and the third and final line is again five syllables. There are variations of this, and Wikipedia notes them, but for this contest's sake, 5-7-5 is the best way to go.

Now that we've got the introductory out of the way, onto the theme. Generally, haiku are nature or seasonal. But, because we're a Pokémon site, Nature and Pokémon is the theme. And, seeing as this is the contest I expect to receive the most entries, there are three prizes to be won.

Here are the rules:
1. You may enter up to three haiku, but only your best will win you a prize and you will only win one prize, not all three.
2. If you enter one haiku at first, then make another one, edit your first post.
3. If you want to edit your haiku, edit it in your post, do not re-post it.
4. Edited posts must have time stamps.

LIPOGRAM CONTEST
Lipograms are a bit more challenging than haiku. A lipogram, to put it short, is a piece of writing that lacks entirely the use of one or multiple letters. For example: "This string of symbols, which I splay across this forum board do, in all truth, lacking application of a usual popular mark." That letter that I avoided, obviously, was "E." And that, my pigeons, is exactly the letter you will be avoiding.

There is a theme for this one as well, and given it's prize, it should make sense. Ferrets are your theme, or, should you choose, squirrels. They should be 300 words in minimum, no shorter, but longer than that is perfectly fine.

Here are the rules:
1. You may enter only one lipogram.
2. You may edit this lipogram at any time during the event, but your posts must be time stamped with edits.
3. Your lipogram must lack, entirely, the letter E. Entries containing this letter will not be counted.
4. Cheating, in the form of spelling out words phonetically or by discluding letters with apostrophes, will also make your entry not be counted.

ADVENTURE CONTEST
And lastly is the Adventure RP contest. This works a bit confusingly and is done over PMs, but I promise you it's most fun. Working from the prompt, you'll write out a role play post in response. Everyone is playing off the same game board, and it's only possible to move right or left. After each RP entry you send me, you put the direction you wish to travel on the game board. I'll PM you back, and give you your next prompt to continue your Adventure.

This basically works like a Choose Your Own Adventure, only you're writing the Adventure to mini prompts and aside of picking right or left, you won't know what the prompts are until you pick. You're traveling blind. In all, you'll have your beginning post, three middle posts, and then your ending. Making a five piece Adventure. These posts can be as long or as short as you want them to be. I'm not shy at reading longer stuff, and... this is a week long event for a reason.

Posted Image

The direction you choose doesn't reflect the direction your character physically has to travel, only where you're "piece" is moving on the "game board."

Now, if you're familiar with Choose Your Own Adventures, you know there are good and bad endings. And indeed so there are in this little game. But worry not. The good and bad endings do not penalize you, so even it you get a bad end, you'll be fine. I understand I'm making you play blind. Everyone, also, will receive the same prompts (though they may be worded a bit differently depending) for fairness's sake if people go in the same direction.

You can use any character(s) you wish, so long as it's Pokémon related. You will NOT have the chance to edit your posts after you send them to me. So any errors sent to me are how they are when I read them in the end. CHECK, DOUBLE CHECK, AND TRIPLE CHECK, BEFORE YOU SEND STUFF TO ME, FOR ERRORS.

Grading System:
Originality: 20 points
Fluidity: 10 points
Grammar and Punctuation: 10 points

Total: 40 points

Originality: How original is it? Do you avoid typical clichés? Did you make it something exciting for me to read?
Fluidity: Did your pieces connect? Do you not rely on the prompts to connect them and connect your pieces together by your own skills?
Grammar and Punctuation: Do your sentences end with a period? Is your dialogue in quotation marks? Do you use commas when appropriate? Are your ellipses (...) the correct length? Are your words spell checked? (I should note, this is probably a hard section to get full points in. I'm extremely picky about punctuation. So long as it's not excessive... you should be fine.)

Rules:
1. Your PM to me should be "[Your username]'s Adventure".
2. You can not enter more than one time.
3. Once you hit the send button, your entry is final, meaning you can not edit that piece of the Adventure anymore.
4. You MUST pick a direction (either Left or Right) at the end of each section of your Adventure.

Finally. The prompt for your first entry.

"You're trapped. The oxygen in the room is slowly being wasted away, as each hurried breath you take seeps in more and more of the precious substance. You worry your fingers and think, your pulse thrashing in terror. What will you do?"

Haha yes, haiku posts and lipograms go here~. It's the Adventure that gets PM'd because I have to keep the prompts secret. XD;

I'm glad someone entered the haiku contest D8 I feared poor Pudgie would be all unloved.

Okay, good xD

Haiku's were actually my favorite thing to study during my grammar classes in elementary/secondary school. I wasn't always that grand at writing them, but they were really fun xD

I loved Haiku in school. I need to make Shi host the next contest or something, because I'm all "D: I want to enter..." right now. I'll probably never get away with making her do that though. XD; Given her lenience on my Katy character. D8;

~<3 *waits for more entries* XD Waiting a week to close this is going to kill me.

Lipogram entry -w-

If an animal roams land that I got an affinity for, imaginably I would say that it was an animal so trivial as a mink or a chipmunk. Mammals, though not marsupials... so natural, so lucid an animal thou is for an individual such as I to talk with so much passion about it.

Now, to look at a dissimilar animal, shall I say, a lion or possibly a gorilla. Animals, thou may stay – though thou consist on this world – I do not claim an affinity for thou as I do with minks and many similar mammals of this world that humans imply to catch and apply such disgusting biology audits upon.

Look at it from my standpoint, if you will – you'll catch onto why it is that I am fond of such an animal that a vast majority of fold in this world look at as gross or icky. A word I can't summon into mind is wanting to go and say additional things on this affair, though I'm afraid I must admit that I truly do not hold that much of an opportunity to do so. Though, to wrap up this discussion, I must still say that no amount of talking to this soul will turn my opinions to a contrary odd.

I know that such animals of that class normally stay in dark and murky portrayals of most humans' minds – though I think that both girls and boys should push thou young mind's doors ajar to an outstanding horizon that lurks within bottoms of what a glorious world it is that both animals and human do. As it stands at this point, it's that part to which I should say that I am truly sorry for going so off topic.

Though... this wraps up my zoology chalk talk, class, what has your mouth about calling this class. I do also await all of your annotations or manuscripts on my stand tomorrow morning. Lock in mind that thou shall mark down about animals such as minks, chipmunks and similar animals that this class had in discussion today.

------------

It's not the best... but it's all I could come up with.

Oh... and hah... before the seven o' clock hour -w-

@Bori
Haha, it will. I'm just hoping that after the usuals (You, Shiay and Sumdood) make their entries, that I get some from the people that aren't as around as regularly. I made it a week long for them XD; so they wouldn't miss it. Because that had happened last time.

@Shiay
Good gracious. XD You managed it. In all honestly I expected no one to enter the Lipogram contest because they would be all "...what is this shit." I'm glad you entered though. Now... two more to avoid people winning by default...

@All
And sorry I'm keeping my opinions on your entries tight lipped for now, guys. XD I don't want to give away my judging. I will say I'm quite happy with everything entered so far, Adventures sitting in my PMs included. :D

Blades are stronger than diamonds
The one is Gallade

The King of Giants
Is gentle and powerful
Slow Start will be over

Abomination
The clone of Mew is Mewtwo
Both wise and stupid

How's that for a Haiku

Here goes... ^^;; *tried to make a story* D:

Lipogram

Clavair Fion (or Clav, as was his tag by many) is known for facts of running amongst packs of furry mammals. Cianwood City’s public may laugh and mock him, but Clav maintains his spirits and fights on to attain his ambition; to inhabit a pack. Not as a solo boy, but as a man among what most may know as “varmint”. A child... a wish... a glint of a way of living, all of this was what Clav had a thirst for, just out of his grasp though, sadly.

A cry is caught during nights by Cianwood’s orphan’s asylum, a cry out to any that can catch it, any of his “siblings”. Siblings to Clav, that was his top pick of a classification. Could unofficial siblings not adopt him? Handfuls of various adults did nothing contrasting of that to orphans of all proportions at this asylum, known as a prison to its young convicts.

Blocking him out, that was what was cropping up in his own mind. Did packs not want him...? All that was known as truth... was it all just a fabrication? Nay... it simply couldn’t, not to him, not now, not at any point.

Bars lining windows, cutting off from woods; all just a ploy. Clav would not crack, as a Fion, it was unknown, and as a sibling to many furry companions... simply not an option. For now Clavair would stay victim, a convict to opinions by crowds, knowing that all things turn out right prior to finishing.

So, slinking back to his cot, Clavair shuts his orbs, drifting away to a land any boy is not sad to spot. His own fantasy of a point that both boy and animal can bump into and play, a fantasy that is always in his vicinity. It is in this fantasy that this orphan always drops by, knowing that this is an instant of unfallicious joviality.

With animal in hand, boy and mammal pad off, nirvana forming for now, and for good.
